Newcastle Racecourse holds on two and a half meetings every month with around 32 meetings spanning both the Flat & National Hunt seasons and is the busiest racetrack in the UK. Clearly the highlights of each season are the John Smith's Northumberland Plate three-day Festival, Beeswing Ladies Day, Pertemps Fighting Fifth Hurdle, Tote Eider, Guinness St Patrick's Day and a new meeting on Grand National Day. Notable Races Beeswing Stakes
The Beeswing Stakes is a flat horse race in the United Kingdom for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres) at Newcastle Racecourse in late July. It is currently run as a handicap (the Beeswing Handicap) and is a relatively unremarkable race, but prior to 2000 it was a conditions race which held Group 3 status. The race takes its name from Beeswing, a successful 19th century racehorse bred in Northumberland.

Chipchase Stakes
The Chipchase Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in the United Kingdom for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 6 furlongs (1,207 metres) at Newcastle Racecourse in late June or early July. It was first run in 1994 as a Listed race and upgraded to Group 3 in 2001.

Northumberland Plate
The Northumberland Plate is a flat horse race in the United Kingdom which forms the centrepiece of a three-day festival at Newcastle Racecourse, usually on the last Thursday, Friday and Saturday in June. The race is a handicap run over a distance of 2 miles 19 yards (3,236 metres) and is contested by thoroughbreds aged three-years-old and upwards. It was first run in 1883 and was originally known as the Pitmen's Derby and is still thus tabletopibed in the north-east of England. In its early years, it afforded a rare holiday for the local mining families who flocked to the course to enjoy the racing. The Northumberland Plate is one of the richest two-mile handicaps in the world.

Fighting Fifth Hurdle (National Hunt Race)
The "Fighting Fifth" Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race in the United Kingdom for four-year-old and above horses. It is run over a distance of 2 miles (3,219 metres) at Newcastle Racecourse in November. There are nine hurdles to be jumped in the race. The race title comes from the nickname of the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers regiment, originally the 5th Regiment of Foot.  

Course Details Flat:
Left-handed 1 3/4m oval with easy bends. Uphill 4f run-in places emphasis on stamina. Can become very testing.

Effect Of Draw:
Low numbers best on the straight course in soft or heavy ground.

National Hunt:
Left-handed, with uphill finish. Going can be very testing. Circuit 1m6f.
